Judy O'Meara has proudly served the Colchester Public Schools community in a variety of leadership roles throughout her educational career and was appointed Acting Superintendent of Schools effective April 27, 2026. In this role, she provides leadership for the district's educational programs, operations, and strategic initiatives while maintaining a steadfast commitment to student success, staff support, and community partnerships.

A lifelong Colchester resident and graduate of Colchester Public Schools, Judy's connection to the community extends beyond her professional role. She brings a deep understanding of the district's history, values, and aspirations, along with a strong belief that every child deserves a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Before becoming Acting Superintendent, Judy served as Principal of Colchester Elementary School, where she championed high quality instruction, the Science of Reading, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), inclusive practices, and continuous school improvement. Her leadership has focused on fostering strong relationships with students, families, staff, and the broader community while promoting collaboration, innovation, and data informed decision making.

Throughout her career, Judy has served in numerous educational positions, including assistant principal and elementary classroom teacher. These experiences have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of curriculum, instruction, student services, special education, school operations, and organizational leadership across multiple grade levels.

Judy is committed to building a culture of trust, transparency, and shared responsibility. She believes that strong schools are built through meaningful partnerships with families, dedicated educators, and community members who work together to support every learner. Her leadership philosophy centers on collaboration, continuous improvement, and ensuring that all students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for future success.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Judy values spending time with her family and remains deeply invested in the Colchester community she has called home throughout her life. She considers it both an honor and a privilege to serve the students, families, staff, and residents of Colchester Public Schools.  She is proud of her deep roots in this community including being married to William J. Johnston’s grandson.
